The University of Dodoma (UDOM) has launched an intensive five-day training program aimed at enhancing the research writing skills of its PhD students.

This initiative focuses on equipping researchers with the necessary expertise to conduct high-quality research and publish their findings in internationally recognized academic journals.

UDOM’s Commitment to Research Excellence

Speaking at the training’s opening session, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic, Research, and Consultancy, Prof. Razack Lokina, emphasized that the program aligns with UDOM’s strategic efforts to strengthen the research capabilities of doctoral candidates.

He reiterated that this initiative is part of the university’s continuous commitment to empowering PhD students with the skills required to produce high-standard academic research.

“Our expectation is that after completing this training, students will have gained proficiency in searching, accessing, and critically evaluating scholarly publications.

Additionally, they will develop expertise in leveraging technology for citations and references while adhering to academic integrity standards,” stated Prof. Lokina.

Strengthening Research and Academic Integrity

The Director of Library Services at UDOM, Dr. Grace Msoffe, highlighted that the training program is designed to enhance students’ abilities in literature review, data management, and artificial intelligence utilization in research.

She further stressed the importance of adhering to ethical writing guidelines, referencing tools, and the use of the university’s extensive research databases.

A participant, Ms. Jenifer Cosmas from the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences (CNMS), expressed her appreciation for the training, noting that it will significantly improve her technological proficiency in managing research data and utilizing AI-driven tools for academic writing.

Annual Training for Continuous Skill Enhancement

This research writing training is an annual event at UDOM, targeting first-year to third-year PhD students. The primary goal is to build their capacity in research methodology, data organization, and the application of technology in drafting high-impact research papers.

By fostering academic excellence, UDOM continues to position itself as a hub for scholarly innovation and knowledge dissemination.

With a steadfast commitment to nurturing top-tier researchers, UDOM’s initiative underscores its dedication to producing globally competitive academics who contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge and societal development.
