The Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) has officially unveiled the highly anticipated HESLB Marathon, a charity event to mark its 20th anniversary. The marathon is scheduled to take place on February 15, 2025, at the Green Grounds (Viwanja vya Farasi) in Dar es Salaam.
Guest of Honor: President of Zanzibar to Lead the Event
The event will be graced by His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, who will serve as the Guest of Honor. This high-profile presence underscores the significance of the event in uniting Tanzanians to celebrate two decades of HESLB’s impactful service in advancing higher education.
Purpose of the HESLB Marathon
Speaking at the launch on Friday, December 20, 2024, HESLB Executive Director Dr. Bill Kiwia highlighted the noble goals of the marathon. Proceeds from the event will be directed towards:
- Equipping Two Secondary Schools with Laboratory Facilities
- One school in Zanzibar.
- One school in mainland Tanzania.
- Enhancing HESLB’s Customer Call Centre
- Upgrading the call center to improve service delivery for students and stakeholders.
Dr. Kiwia emphasized the importance of this initiative in giving back to the community while celebrating HESLB’s journey of empowering students through loans and educational support.
Event Highlights
The HESLB Marathon will feature multiple race categories to cater to participants of all ages and fitness levels, including:
- 5km fun run.
- 10km race.
- 21km half-marathon.
Participants will not only enjoy a day of physical fitness and camaraderie but also contribute to a cause that supports the education sector in Tanzania.
