This initiative is set to take place at the Mloganzila Campus on February 26-27, 2025, from 3:00 AM to 10:00 PM, offering comprehensive health screenings for the community.

Strengthening Community Health Outreach

The meeting, led by the Executive Officer of Kwembe Ward, Mr. Peter Chawala, welcomed various community leaders, including members of the Development Committee, local health officials, the education coordinator, and local government representatives.

The primary goal of this meeting was to inform them about the upcoming health screening camp, encouraging their active involvement in ensuring that the community benefits from the services offered.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Chawala expressed gratitude to MUHAS for prioritizing the well-being of the local population by organizing this crucial initiative.

He emphasized the importance of disseminating this information to the residents, ensuring maximum participation.

Comprehensive Health Services for the Community

Prof. Emmy Metta, the Social Welfare Portfolio Manager for the HEET project at MUHAS, elaborated on the scope of the services that will be provided.

She detailed the comprehensive health checks that the experts from MUHAS will offer, covering essential areas such as eye health, dental care, breast cancer and cervical cancer screenings, liver disease (hepatitis), prostate health, and education on drug resistance, nutrition, and non-communicable diseases.

Prof. Metta urged the leaders to communicate the importance of these free services to the residents, ensuring they take full advantage of the opportunity to receive early detection and medical education. “We hope the community can utilize these free services to improve their health outcomes,” she said.

One key request was for the continuation of health screening camps in the future and the establishment of a primary school in the area, highlighting the community’s dedication to long-term development.

A Bright Future for Health in Kwembe

This collaboration between MUHAS and the local leaders of Kwembe Ward sets a precedent for future community health initiatives, not only in the Kwembe area but also in Tanzania at large.

The dedication and active participation of local leaders and residents will undoubtedly contribute to the success of the camp, ensuring that the benefits of these services reach as many people as possible.
