The University of Nairobi (UoN) has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and institutional development with a confirmatory visit to Nyandarua University College (NyUC).
This strategic initiative, led by UoN’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Ag.), Eng. Prof. Ayub N. Gitau, aimed to evaluate the progress of implementing the recommendations from the Commission for University Education’s (CUE) Technical Inspection Report.
Purpose of the Visit
The visit, conducted on January 16-17, 2025, serves as a preparatory measure ahead of CUE’s follow-up inspection of NyUC, scheduled for January 28, 2025.
The inspection is critical to ensuring the institution meets the rigorous standards required for operational and academic excellence.
During the visit, the UoN team assessed progress on the implementation of the recommendations outlined in the initial Technical Inspection Report from June 4, 2024.
This report provides a framework for addressing key infrastructural, academic, and administrative requirements necessary for the successful establishment of Nyandarua University College.
Engagement with Local Leadership
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Hon. Agnes W. Njunji, the County Executive Committee Member for Education, Children, Gender Affairs, Culture, and Social Services.
In a show of collaborative leadership, the team also paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Dr. Moses Kiarie, Governor of Nyandarua County.
The discussions focused on the ongoing efforts to transform the proposed institution into a center of excellence in higher education.
Location and Infrastructure
Nyandarua University College, a constituent college of the University of Nairobi, is set to operate initially at the refurbished Oljoro Orok Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) in Olkalou.

Collaboration for Success
The UoN team collaborated with the Nyandarua County Technical Team, led by Dr. Pachomius Wambugu, County Chief Officer for Education, Children, Gender Affairs, Culture, and Social Services. Together, they finalized preparations for the upcoming inspection, ensuring all requirements are met for the successful establishment of the college.
