A Warm Welcome to the University of Dar es Salaam

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) stands as a beacon of academic excellence, innovation, and societal transformation.

As Vice Chancellor, I am delighted to welcome students, researchers, academicians, and other stakeholders to an institution that has consistently upheld its reputation as a premier center of higher learning in Tanzania and beyond.

With an enrollment of over 35,000 students, including 5,000 postgraduates and 300 international students, UDSM fosters a dynamic and diverse academic environment.

Our research spans across multiple disciplines, encompassing agriculture, education, humanities, engineering, health sciences, sociology, economics, and law.

The university maintains strong ties with both national and international institutions to ensure the continued relevance and excellence of our academic programs, research, and public service initiatives.

A Legacy of Academic Excellence and Leadership

UDSM is more than just an educational institution; it is a thriving intellectual community dedicated to bringing out the best in its members. Our commitment extends beyond academic excellence to include holistic student development.

Since our establishment, we have played a crucial role in nurturing leaders who contribute significantly to national and regional development.

We aim to provide an optimal environment for teaching, learning, and research while upholding our track record of success in East Africa, Africa, and globally. Our mission is to advance economic, social, and technological development through world-class teaching, research, and knowledge exchange.

We actively align our programs with national and global development goals to ensure our graduates are well-equipped to meet the demands of the evolving job market.

A Thriving Campus Experience

At UDSM, we believe that the quality of a student’s experience goes beyond academic study. We encourage students to engage in extracurricular activities through the Students’ Union and take advantage of our extensive sports and recreational facilities.

These include a swimming pool, cricket and athletic fields, soccer pitches, bird-watching areas, and a multifunctional gym. Additionally, we provide shopping, dining, health, and accommodation facilities to enhance student life on campus.

Our goal is to nurture well-rounded graduates who not only excel academically but also develop leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

We want our students to become agents of change, contributing to the prosperity of Tanzania, Africa, and the world at large.

Building Strong Partnerships for Future Success

UDSM takes immense pride in its relationships with the international community, industries, and research organizations.

These collaborations strengthen our research capacity and create opportunities for students and faculty to engage in groundbreaking work that addresses real-world challenges.

Our alumni network is a testament to our commitment to excellence, with graduates holding influential positions across various sectors. We believe that every new student who joins UDSM adds to our legacy of academic distinction.

A Call to Excellence

To our students, I urge you to remain focused on your studies and take full advantage of the resources available at UDSM. Your role in maintaining a conducive learning environment is crucial. Should you have any concerns or suggestions, my office is always open to you.

We look forward to welcoming you to the University of Dar es Salaam, where knowledge meets opportunity, and excellence knows no bounds.
